Before you trust any provider
- No email provider is above the law. Proton handed over a user's IP under a Swiss court order in 2021 — legally, correctly, and publicly. Jurisdiction is about which court can compel them, not whether they're "good."
- Unaudited ≠ insecure, but it means you're taking their word for it. We note independent audits where they exist and say so where they don't.
- 5/9/14 Eyes are intelligence-sharing alliances. A provider in a member country can be legally compelled to surveil and share. Outside the alliances ≠ safe, but it's one fewer pressure point.
- Prices and policies change. Verify on the provider's site before paying. This page is informational, not an endorsement.
